Every game you ever loved, on one shelf.
A brand-new app from the LaunchBox team, built for Linux and Steam Deck. Not a port. Coming to Linux. Closed beta pre-sale, Black Friday only.
It starts with a mess.
A folder of files with names only a download could love. You know the one.
Point LaunchBox at it. That's your whole job.
It reads every file in the folder and works out which game each one really is.
Found 1,204 games.
Then every file remembers what it is.
Box art, logos, screenshots, release dates and the story behind the game, filled in from the LaunchBox Games Database. You don't type a thing.
One game looks good. A thousand look unreal.
Arcade to PlayStation, handhelds to home computers. Everything you own ends up in one place, in one style.
1,204 games
Your Steam games can sit with them.
Why should your old favourites and your new ones live apart?
One library. No more launcher hopping.
Steam, Epic and GOG show up right beside your NES carts. Install and play them all from one place.
Press Play. That's the whole manual.
No emulator menus and no setting things up. LaunchBox gets RetroArch, MAME, Dolphin and friends ready for you, then gets out of the way.
Quit whenever. You land back on your shelf.
Your time is counted and your progress is kept, without you lifting a finger.
for 1h 12m.
Saved. Pick up right here next time.
Now put the keyboard away.
Controller Mode turns any screen into a console. Every page and every setting works from a pad, on your TV or your Steam Deck.
Beat it, and you keep it forever.
RetroAchievements, quests, cups and high scores all live on your shelf. Then your month comes back to you as a story.
Finish the game a second time. 25 points on RetroAchievements.
Play three games you haven't touched in a year.
You're third on the board. Second place is 400 points away.
It's new. All of it.
This isn't LaunchBox for Windows moved over to Linux. It's a brand-new app and a brand-new experience, built the LaunchBox way.
The LaunchBox way
- Your games, your files, your collection
- Art and details from the LaunchBox Games Database
- Made by people who love this stuff as much as you do
All new
- Built for Linux and Steam Deck from the start
- A new look and a new way to browse
- A console mode that does everything from a pad
So it won't look or work like the Windows app, and that's the point.
Free. Forever.
When 1.0 arrives, the app is free for everyone. Not a trial. One app, no account and nothing to set up.
All of this, for nothing:
- Messy folders sorted
- Art and details for every game
- Steam, Epic and GOG in one place
- Press Play and it just runs
- Controller Mode on any screen
- Achievements, quests and recaps
Why pay for something you can't use yet?
Fair question. Here's what you get for buying in before anyone else.
You get in first
The closed beta build reaches you in early January. For at least a month or two, only Round One is inside.
You help build it
Tell us exactly what you wish it had. We will always listen, and plenty of it will end up in the app.
You see how it's made
Regular developer updates and in-depth feature write-ups, so you know what you bought long before you can play it.
You pay once, forever
A lifetime license for Premium. No renewals, and nothing more to pay when 1.0 arrives.
It never gets cheaper
This is the lowest price it will ever be, and it's only on sale for Black Friday. Then we stop selling it.
You can change your mind
Try the January build first. If it isn't for you, get a full refund any time up to 14 days after it arrives.
It's a beta, so expect rough edges and things that break. Finding them with us is part of the deal.
Pull up a chair in the workshop.
Buying in puts you straight into a private forum with the people building the app. Read how each feature works and why, then tell us what you think while it can still change.
Feature write-up: what comes first on the console shelf
LaunchBox team
We tried five orders for the shelf. Recently played won, but it buries your new imports. Here's what we tested, what we learned, and the two we can't choose between.
New imports up front, please. I add games in batches and then can't find them.
You're the third to ask this week. We're trying a New row in the next build.
Go on, try it. This one's a preview, so nothing gets sent.
Here's exactly what happens next.
- Black Friday
- The day you buy
- Early January
- A few months in
- After that
- When it is ready
Black Friday
Round One opens, then closes
The pre-sale runs for the Black Friday sale only, at the lowest price it will ever be. When the sale ends, we stop selling it.
The day you buy
You walk into the forum
A private forum, straight away. Regular developer updates, in-depth feature write-ups, and a say in what happens next.
Early January
The first build is yours
The closed beta lands in your hands. For at least a month or two, Round One is the only group inside, and your feedback shapes every build.
A few months in
Round Two opens
A new group buys into the closed beta. You stay in, with everything you already have.
After that
More rounds, more polish
We keep running closed rounds until we are happy with it. Not before.
When it is ready
1.0, open to everyone
The app goes public and free. You keep Premium for life, and you can say you were there first.
Round One closes when the sale ends.
Once it's gone, this price and this seat at the table are gone with it.
Ends in 3d 7h 12m 9s
$30 once
$60 after Black Friday
- Lifetime Premium
- The private forum, starting today
- The closed beta build in early January
- Full refund until 14 days after that build arrives
Runs on Steam Deck, SteamOS, Bazzite, Arch, Fedora, Ubuntu and more. Bring your own games.
